Dr. Stanley Skopit is a Board Certified Dermatologist, Diplomate of the National Board, and Fellow of Distinction of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD). As an educator, as well as a physician, Dr. Skopit serves as Chairman of the Department of Dermatology and as Clinical Professor of dermatology at Nova Southeastern University, Health Professions Division, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Dr. Skopit has been in private practice since 1981 at two locations, in Hollywood and Pompano Beach, Florida, and was the CEO and president of A Center For Dermatology before joining Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. His practice is devoted to general and cosmetic dermatology, which includes the diagnosis and treatment of diseases associated with the skin, hair, and nails. Dr. Skopit has authored numerous articles for prominent dermatology journals and has co-authored a chapter on dermatologic diagnosis in a major textbook for physical therapists. Dr. Skopit has a keen interest not only in treating dermatological diseases, but also helping his patients to improve their appearance through facial rejuvenation, utilizing modalities such as lasers, chemical facial peels, collagen implantation, Botox®, Restylane® and all the new filler modalities for facial lines and wrinkles. Dr. Skopit has participated with the American Cancer Society by screening for skin cancers throughout his career. Skin cancer surgery has been a large part of Dr. Skopit's practice, with his office being one of only a few dermatological facilities that can offer Mohs Micrographic Surgery for aggressive and recurrent skin cancers performed by a certified Mohs surgeon who is a Board Certified Dermatologist.
Dr. Skopit is a member and Past-president (2003-2004) of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD), for which he also has served as trustee of the executive committee. He is the founding co-editor of the Journal of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (JAOCD). Dr. Skopit has been a resident of the Greater Miami Area since 1960 when he moved to South Florida from Toronto, Canada. Dr. Skopit graduated from the University of Miami in 1967 with a BS degree. He taught high school physics, chemistry, and mathematics for 7 years in Iowa. He received his Masters Degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1972 and graduated medical school from Des Moines University in 1977. Dr. Skopit completed his one-year internship in 1978 and his Dermatology Residency Training in 1981. Dr. Skopit and his wife have two married children. Their son is an elementary school educator in South Florida and their daughter is a veterinarian residing in the state of New York.
