Dr. S. Alison Basak is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. As an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, Dr. Basak dual-majored in Spanish literature and biology. There, she also earned her medical degree in addition to a master’s degree in biomedical sciences studying neuro-immunology.
Dr. Basak completed her dermatology residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 2014. Mentored by many highly-respected Mohs surgeons, she learned several surgical approaches that enrich the care she can offer her own patients. Following her residency, she completed a fellowship for Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology at the University of Missouri in Columbia. While there, she trained under dermatologic, ENT and plastic surgeons to learn the advanced facial reconstruction techniques required following cancer removal.
Her professional interests are skin cancer detection and treatment and cutaneous oncology. She believes in thorough communication and strives to treat each patient with compassion and respect, just as she would want her own family members to be treated. Dr. Basak feels immense professional and personal satisfaction to be able to cure cancer and provide aesthetic reconstructions for her patients.
She has published novel reconstructions and co-authored a book chapter for dermatologic surgeons. She has also been published in several peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented her research internationally.
Outside of work, Dr. Basak enjoys spending time with her husband, a fellow physician. In their free time, they love to travel and go to music concerts.
