You Should Have Your Skin Examined!

You Should Have Your Skin Examined!

Precancerous skin lesions usually occur as a result of damage from ultraviolet radiation from the sun or other sources, like tanning beds.

Advanced Dermatology recommends that everyone have an annual Total-Body Skin Cancer Examsm to help spot these growths at their very earliest stages before they can progress to skin cancer. They will look at your skin to identify actinic keratoses, also called solar keratoses, which are rough scaly patches on your skin that could become squamous cell cancers, moles (also called nevi) especially if they are changing in any way, atypical nevi and skin discolorations.

Early Detection and Treatment

Early Detection and Treatment

No one knows which pre-cancerous lesions will go on to become cancerous, so it’s best to treat them early. Treatments may be ongoing for certain pre-cancer concerns, or require more than one treatment modality. Early detection and treatment can prevent precancerous lesions from developing into skin cancer. These treatments include cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy (PDT), or topical medications.
