Excess Sweat Can Be the Pits

You probably know that BOTOX® is used on the face, but it’s also approved for use to diminish excess sweating under the arms. There, it targets the nerves that tell the sweat glands to start producing perspiration. By temporarily blocking the signal, those glands don’t get the message and you don’t sweat as much.

Treatment is No Sweat, Really!

Treatment is No Sweat, Really!

BOTOX® therapy is performed in the doctor’s office. It’s injected into areas under the arms using a very fine needle. Patients describe the sensation as feeling like little bug bites, but a topical anesthetic can be applied to increase comfort, if needed.

You will notice results in two to four weeks. You will continue to sweat elsewhere, just not in the treatment area. In BOTOX® studies, about 80% of people saw a reduction in their sweating by more than half. While it’s not permanent, the reduced sweating from BOTOX® treatments can last six to eight months or longer. Retreatment is recommended every six to eight months to maintain the effects achieved.

Schedule an evaluation with your ADCS dermatologist to discuss the option of BOTOX® therapy for excess sweating.
