Caught Early and Treated Properly, Skin Cancer is Highly Curable

The survival rate for non-melanoma skin cancer when treated is nearly 100% at five years. The survival rate for melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer) is 99% when detected early but drops all the way to 15% in its more advanced stages. If you notice a mole or skin lesion that changes, itches or bleeds, these could be early warning signs of a melanoma and should be checked by one of our experts. Make an appointment immediately.

Convenient and Comprehensive

Immediate appointments are available in many of our 150+ locations. Schedule your annual Total-Body Skin Cancer Examsm or talk to us about any of your skin cancer concerns. You should expect your total-body skin cancer exam to be done in the same detailed manner as a complete physical exam by your primary care physician.

Our team of skin cancer specialists will help you understand all about your Total-Body Skin Cancer Exam, including what we’re going to do before the exam and what we’ve found, any further actions we might recommend including biopsies or treatments after the exam, and about steps you can take now to try to prevent skin cancers in the future.

The ABCDEs of Melanoma

Advanced Dermatology’s dermatologists and other providers have special expertise in recognizing warning signs of melanoma. However, you can play an important role in early detection as well by noting any changes in the way your skin looks, particularly changes to a mole or moles. When performing self-exams, keep the following in mind:

  • is for Asymmetry – One half of the mole does not match the other half.
  • is for Border irregularity – The edges are ragged, notched or blurred.
  • is for Color – The color varies from one area to another. It could be brown or black, or might have patches of pink, red, white or blue.
  • is for Diameter – Melanomas are usually greater than 6 millimeters (the size of a pencil eraser) although they could be smaller.
  • is for Evolving – A mole or skin lesion that looks different from the rest or is changing in size, shape or color.

If you see any of these signs, immediately schedule an appointment

Mohs Surgery

Mohs is one of an array of advanced treatments we offer for specific types of non-melanoma skin cancer. For some types of cancer, Mohs offers the highest potential for a cure while minimizing the cosmetic impact of treatment.

Other Treatment Options

If you’ve been diagnosed with melanoma, the best treatment for you will depend on many factors, including the size and the stage of your cancer, and your overall health. Options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biological therapy and certain types of targeted therapy.

No matter what you decide, we’ll provide advice and answer all your questions.
