Minimizing the Appearance of Scars

Scar Reduction & Refinement: A Thoughtful, Timed Approach to Beautiful Healing

Scars tell a story — but they don’t have to define your skin.

Whether following surgery, acne, injury, or a cosmetic procedure, the way your skin is supported during healing can dramatically influence the final result. At Advanced Dermatology, we approach scar care with intention, precision, and timing — guiding you through each phase of healing to optimize how your skin looks and feels long term.

Scar refinement is not about rushing the process. It’s about introducing the right treatments at the right time.

Your Scar Refinement Journey

Every scar evolves — and so should your care plan. Our timeline-based approach ensures your skin receives the appropriate support at each stage of recovery.

Day 0-14 | Protect the Foundation

The journey begins the moment your procedure is complete. Proper protection and early care create the foundation for smoother, more refined healing.

Your provider will outline personalized guidance designed to support optimal skin recovery from the start.

Days 14–60 | Refine & Protect

As the skin transitions from healing to remodeling, proactive scar therapy helps encourage smoother texture and more even tone.

Options during this phase may include:

Consistency during this period supports softer, less noticeable scarring over time.

*Appointment required with medical provider.

Day 60+ | Elevate & Enhance

Once healing is complete, we may introduce advanced aesthetic treatments to further refine tone, texture, and contour.

Depending on your skin and scar type, enhancement options may include:

Each recommendation is curated to complement your skin — never over-treating, always respecting the integrity of your natural features.

Minimizing the Appearance of Scars

Minimizing the Appearance of Scars

There are multiple ways that the appearance of scars can be minimized by Advanced Dermatology’s dermatologists and cosmetic dermatology specialists. Scar treatments may include topical applications (creams, ointments), injections, medical chemical peelsDermaSweep®microdermabrasion, more sophisticated approaches such as dermabrasion, IPL and other light-based and laser therapies, microneedling, and even cosmetic surgery.

We also offer Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT) for keloids which can form after acne, burns, piercings, surgery and other trauma. Many factors affect what the right type of treatment will be for you. These may include the condition of your skin and the type and age of your scar(s).

Consult with an Advanced Dermatology dermatologist or one of our other providers who specialize in minimizing and eliminating scars to learn more about the various options and find the one right for you. We will help your skin return to a healthier, smoother appearance.

Scar Reduction

Clinical scar reduction therapies can significantly diminish the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and others. They include topical therapies, dermal fillers, microdermabrasion and dermabrasion, as well as laser and microneedling treatments.

Scar Camouflage

Another consideration is scar camouflage using permanent makeup. This technique is used by licensed, highly skilled Advanced Dermatology aestheticians to recolor scars to more closely match your skin tone. Permanent makeup is also used to hide scars that involve the hairline or eyebrow, for example, where hairs can also be simulated for a natural look.

Scar treatment procedures are done in-office and the amount of time needed depends on the size and complexity of your scar(s), as well as the condition of the skin being treated. Scars should be healed for at least six months before using permanent makeup.
